The Idea
I have thought about biking to work more often from time to time and have even pondered biking year round. I thought about this while living in Milwaukee on the northeast side, and working in Cedarburg about 17 miles to the north. Throughout the summer I would bike to work and back, while only occasionally taking the car. I was out of the appartment by 5 a.m. and to work by six. But, I must admit, when the days became shorter and colder, I wimped out and switched to using the car almost all the time. However I had frequently thought about biking throught the year.
Until now, however, I had never thought about it as a practice and diciplin into what I aspire to and what I think is ethically correct. In the last few years I have come up with what I think are tenants of ethical living and the second of these is to live within biking or walking distance to work. Oh, you actually have to walk or bike to work, not just live within that distance and take the car anyway. It is because of this tenant that I know I should follow it. It is not enough for
